Not everyone who buys old license plates on eBay is a collector, but if you have a license plate that is of interest to collectors, your profits will increase measurably. So knowing what is attractive to a collector is important to your bottom line as an eBay seller. If space allowed, we could discuss a hundred different types of license plate collections, and that would still just be the tip of the iceberg. Thankfully, there is no need to go into such detail. All 50 States - The most popular of all collections is the goal to obtain a license plate from all fifty states. History Of The Gibson SG Guitar

The Gibson SG guitar is one of the most coveted guitars in history. Many musicians over the years have fallen in love with the SG and have remained loyal to Gibson. Here is a bit of the history of the SG for you to enjoy.

Around the year 1960, the Gibson guitar makers were suffering through a sales slump. Not that the Les Paul was not selling, as it was and very nicely. The trouble was that music was evolving and musicians were looking for a sound, or tone, different from what the Les Paul offered.

So in 1961, Gibson radically altered the body shape so it was now thinner, more lightweight and now featured a double cutaway neck area that permitted deeper access to the higher frets. The neck took on a heavier construction and the neck joint was raised approximately three frets higher. This was done in hopes of competing with Fender's Stratocaster model, which was gaining popularity then.

History Of The Gibson SG Guitar

The new design was marketed with the "fastest neck in the world" and this was largely a fact. The neck had a thinner profile (from the side) and with the higher neck joint, the heel was no longer an obstruction, as was the case with the Les Pauls.

Another name was sought because the guitar looked nothing like a Les Paul. Since the guitar was it's inventor's namesake, Les Paul (the inventor of the electric guitar and the Les Paul design) asked that his name removed from the new design completely.

So, the good people at Gibson brainstormed and called the new model an "SG". Ironically enough, this was simply short for "solid guitar".

The Gibson factory had an abundance of plastic "Les Paul" nameplates in stock. So even though Les Paul's name was removed in 1961, Gibson continued to manufacture SG's with the nameplate between the topmost pickup and the fret board until the end of 1963. Finding one of these early SG's with a Les Paul nameplate would truly be a valuable collector's item.

Since the SG was introduced in early 1961, numerous variations have been made carrying the SG name. There was a standard model (SG Standard) as well as a junior model (SG Junior). Then the top of the line Gibson SG Custom made the scene. Curiously, the SG Customs manufactured from 1961-63 did not say 'SG' on them, yet they did have a Les Paul signature plate under the fret board, as did all Les Paul's.

From 1961 to early '63, the truss rod cover on the SG Standard was engraved with "Les Paul". The SG featured a small pick guard on models made between 1961 and 1965. Then, in 1966, another slight redesigning took place. Now the SG had a different type of neck joint and a batwing-shaped pick guard appeared on models from 1967 upwards.

The design was firm until around 1970 or so. The year 1971 saw the release of a new version of the SG with a floating pick guard reminiscent of the Les Paul. Also the control plate was mounted from the front to decrease construction cost.

A variety of quality tailpieces were offered as options as well. Notable ones were the "Maestro", the "Lyre Vibrola" and the Bigsby vibrato tremolo arm. A few new designs were brought into play with the new tailpiece design. A few of these were the SG 100 (a low end version that was more affordable) and the SG 200 (with two single coil pickups). On the higher end of the SG spectrum were the SG Pro and the SG Deluxe models.

Gibson returned to the original design of the SG in 1973. The pick guard went retro to the small original pick guard and the controls were moved to the rear again and the neck was set deeper into the body with a joining point around the twentieth fret. But by the end of that decade, all the SG models reverted mostly to the old design. Current models are now made with 1967-1969 constructions, the larger LP style pick guard that encases the pickups on the SG body. Variations are still available with the small pick guard. Re-issues of the SG are common and popular.

These guitars resemble their 1960's brothers except that a stop tailpiece is now standard. Models of the SG with a vibrato tailpiece are now a custom item or a special edition model.

The first SG that had active factory pickups was introduced in 1980. Gibson tested an SG model with the same active Moog electronics that were being used (or had been used) in a previous model called the RD Artist. This experimental SG sported a thicker body due to the extraneous added circuitry. This model was lovingly nicknamed the "Gibson SG-R1".

The SG-R1 was made of solid mahogany with a black glossy finish. It had no pick guard, the fret inlays were "dots" opposed to original trapezoid shapes and it featured transparent barrel knobs for the treble and bass controls ranging from "0" to "+5" or "-5" instead of "1" to "10". There was also an extra switch to activate a "boost" on the bridge pickup.

The SG-R1 had a fixed bridge with a tremolo/whammy bar standard. Gibson renamed the SG-R1 the "SG Artist" circa 1981 and subsequently discontinued it. Of these SG's, there were only about 200 ever made.

Today the Gibson SG guitar is still as popular as ever and is used by some of the top guitarists to ever strap on an axe. Some of Gibson's loyal users are Angus Young (AC/DC), Hank Williams Jr, Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), Marilyn Manson, Nic Cester (Jet), Pete Townshend (The Who), Shakira and Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath).

12 Ways to Cook a Steak

Sometimes we get in a rut and eat the same thing over and over again. Well, if you've been fixing steak for the past few years in the same old ways, it's time for your taste buds to come alive with flavor. It's time for your spirit to soar with joy when you stimulate your new taste buds in very different ways. Here are some ideas for you on different ways to fix steak.

1 Add a Touch of the Ocean

Cut a slit in a steak that's one and a half inches thick and stuff a raw oyster in it. Skewer the slit shut with a toothpick. Grill the steak in a skillet and then place the steak on a warm plate. Use the pan drippings to sauté scallions and garlic. Add a little oyster juice to the mixture, warm briefly in the pan and pour over the grilled steak. Warning: This one may be good for the sex drive!

2 Simplicity is Often Best

Brush steak with melted butter before grilling or barbecuing. Right before serving, add salt and pepper.

3 Garlic Lovers Will Love This One

Cut garlic cloves in half. Rub garlic cloves on both surfaces of the raw steak. Cook steak over fire until done. Add sautéed onions, garlic, and parsley on top of steak when finished.

4 Papaya Rubs Tenderizers the Meat

With ripe papaya strips in your hand, rub the fruit into both surfaces of the steak before cooking. Use the fruit side, not the outer peel side. Set the steak aside at room temperature for 10 minutes. Repeat process two additional times. Then cook. This one helps improve digestion.

5 Mushroom Stuffed Steak

When your heart tells you to fix a steak as a comfort food, mushrooms may help.

With a big 2-inch t-bone steak or porterhouse, make several slits into the meat large enough to stuff a teaspoon of mushroom into the slit. Soak fresh button mushrooms in water for 20 minutes, then drain and dice. Add a sprinkle of herbs such as basil, oregano, dill, and rosemary. Mix together. Spoon into the slits. Close slits with a toothpick. Cook steak. Serve with mushroom gravy or mushroom soup on top steak.

6 Breakfast Steak

While steak is grilling in the broiler or in a skillet, fry an egg in clarified butter in another small skillet. Use clarified butter; you've probably been using regular butter all these years! Cook the egg sunny-side up. When the steak is finished cooking to your preferred doneness, transfer it to a warm plate. Add the egg on top. With a little salt and pepper, you're ready to go.

7 Cowboy Style Outside on the Range

With all the ways to fix a steak, cowboys loved to fire up the campfire and add dried cow manure to the fire. After the fire is at the right temperature, add the steak to the grate about 4 inches away from the heat source. Salt and pepper to taste. One cowboy reported that he wasn't too thrilled about the preparation method until he tasted the steak. There were no leftovers that night!

8. Shake the Steak With Herbs

Get a plastic bag or ziplock bag. Add 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar, a few tablespoons of olive oil, a half cup wine, and herbs such as 1/2 teaspoon basil, oregano, summer savory, thyme, lemon pepper and salt. Just shake the herbs into the bag into a surprising combination. Add the steak to the bag. Shake, thus coating the steak with the mixture. Remove steak from bag and grill. This steak will be filled with flavor. You'll want to call all your friends and tell them how this one tastes.

9. Shake The Steak with Herbs and Flour

There are so many variations of how to fix steak it would amaze even your grandfather. This time, get another plastic bag. Add 1/2 cup white wine, a few tablespoons of olive oil, a few tablespoons of flour, and herbs such as 1/2 teaspoon basil, oregano, summer savory, thyme, lemon pepper and salt. Add the steak to the bag. Shake, thus coating the steak with the mixture. Remove from bag and grill. Serve with a bottle of wine.

10. Love Anchovies? Fix a Steak with Them!

Fix your steak as usual, grilling it, broiling it or barbecuing it. When it's finished, add a salty topping of diced green olives with red pimento and anchovies.

11. Kiwi Peach Steak

Of all the ways to fix a steak, this is my favorite. Take one very ripe kiwi and one very ripe peach and dice into very small pieces. These fruits should be very juicy. Mix in a nonmetallic bowl. Use this as your marinade for the meat: add the steak to the bowl, covering the steak with the mixture. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 6 hours. Then when you're ready to cook, wipe off the fruit from the steak and place on grill. Great flavor. Serve with peach pudding when you're feeling fruity!

12. Soy Sauce Standby

Use soy sauce as a marinade. Add up to 1/2 cup wine and kitchen herbs to the marinade. Soak steak in mixture for 30 minutes prior to cooking. Makes a very tasty steak.

Manchego Cheese - Serving Suggestions For the Best Spanish Cheese

Manchego Cheese is an ancient and delicious Spanish cheese which has been made since well before the birth of Christ. We'll give you some background on this great cheese before getting down to business - novel and delicious Manchego cheese recipe suggestions.

Ever heard of Don Quixote? You might remember his tilting at windmills. He's the hero of one of the greatest novels of all-time, written by a man named Miguel de Cervantes. This was all set in the La Mancha region of Spain -- we mention it because it's also the only place in the world where real Manchego Cheese can be made.

There's a board in this pretty region in central Spain which keeps a close eye on the cheese-makers, certifying that the Queso Manchego is made from the milk of the Manchega sheep and aged for 60 days or more. Only then can they put the special D.O. sticker on it certifying that it's an authentic and tasty Manchego.

Manchego Cheese - Serving Suggestions For the Best Spanish Cheese

This whole regulation process has only existed since the early 1980s, but Manchego Cheese has been made in this area for much longer than that. Cervantes mentions it in Don Quixote, which was written in the very early 1600s, so it's at least that old. Or much older -- historians say that there's evidence that very similar cheese was made in La Mancha well before the birth of Christ, so in fact the cheese is thousands of years old! You can't actually buy a thousand year old cheese, though, and probably just as well! Manchego comes in three varieties, depending on how long it's been aged for (in a cave, no less):

A Manchego Fresco is a white, fresh variety of the cheese aged for only a couple of weeks. This is hard to get outside Spain and is not technically a real Manchego, but still has a great smooth, rich flavour. You'll just have to make a trip over there to eat it! Most common is the Manchego Curado which gets between three and six months of aging. It's semi-solid and a yellowish-white, with a mild, nutty taste and a smooth, creamy texture. It's an excellent melting cheese and very complementary to all kinds of flavours. My favourite, however, is the Manchego Viejo. This is aged for up to a year and so is a bit more expensive. The colour is a rich yellow and the cheese is much more solid, with a complex flavour -- an intense, peppery body with a sharp edge to it and the characteristic sheep's milk aftertaste. It's a main course cheese, as you'll see...

Now that we've whetted your appetite, how do you get hold of a delicious Manchego? Most gourmet supermarkets or delicatessens should have some for you to choose from - but look closely to make sure you're buying real Manchego. Make sure that you see the herringbone pattern on the rind, the wheat ear pattern on the top and bottom of the wheel, and most importantly, the official D.O. tab on the back which gives you confidence that it's real. And now it's finally time to make a meal! There's no limit to the versatility of these cheeses, especially if you can get hold of multiple types, but here are some Manchego serving suggestions which work well for us:

First, Spanish tapas platter: a strong Manchego Viejo works perfectly in the middle of a tapas platter, surrounded by gorgeous Spanish Jamon, green olives, crusty bread and dulce de membrillo (a sweet quince paste). This should be your first option for Viejo. For a Manchego Curado, you have infinite options. Apple and Manchego Salad is easy -- a salad of tart Granny Smith apples, smooth Manchego Curado cheese, chives, smoked almonds, olive oil and apple cider vinegar. How about a Manchego Hot Dog? It's a hot dog variant with a Spanish touch. A crusty bun with deep red chorizo sausage, rocket and Manchego Curado. Italian fusion Manchego Pizza: take a good thin pizza base, cover with tomato passata mixed with paprika, add slices of fresh tomato, sweet green olives and top with grated manchego curado - simple yet so effective!

Think carefully about how you serve this beautiful cheese and you'll be rewarded.

Briefly, these folks are:

Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act - Felonies and Misdemeanors

The words "computer crime" generally conjures one of two ideas: high-tech espionage or child pornography. However, in Oklahoma these take on a much broader approach. From online solicitation of a minor and other internet sex crimes to hacking and fraud, these crimes in Oklahoma are clearly defined by the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act (21 O.S. 1951 et. seq.). Section 1953 of the Oklahoma Statutes deems the following to be criminal offenses: (partial list)

1. Willfully, and without authorization, gain or attempt to gain access to and damage, modify, alter, delete, destroy, copy, make use of, disclose or take possession of a computer, network or any other property;

2. Use a computer or any other property as defined for the purpose of devising or executing a scheme or artifice with the intent to defraud, deceive, extort or for the purpose of controlling or obtaining money, property, services or other thing of value by means of a false or fraudulent pretense or representation;

3. Willfully exceed the limits of authorization and damage, modify, alter, destroy, copy, delete, disclose or take possession of a computer, computer system, computer network or any other property;

4. Willfully and without authorization, gain or attempt to gain access to a computer, computer system, computer network or any other property;

Under the Oklahoma law, some of these crimes are misdemeanor offenses, but most of the offenses are felonies. Misdemeanors include:

• Accessing a computer or network without authorization
• Using or allowing the use of a computer service without authorization
• Using a computer, computer system, or computer network to abuse, threaten, or harass another individual

The six remaining crimes are felonies. Some specific examples of CPU crime include internet fraud; computer sexual exploitation; copyright piracy (illegally downloading music, for example); hacking; and development and distribution of viruses, worms, bots, spyware, and malware.

Along with the increasing access to computers and the internet comes increased responsibility for ethical use of technology. By abusing the privileges of technology through internet sex crimes and other computer crimes, one risks the consequences of conviction. Conviction of a misdemeanor computer crime in Oklahoma is can result in a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and up to ,000 in fines. Oklahoma computer crime felonies are punishable by fines of ,000 to 0,000 and a maximum prison sentence of ten years. Additionally those convicted are also subject to civil lawsuits as well as criminal charges.

What are the Real Risks of Body Piercing? -- Advice for Parents & Teens

Are you or your teenager considering a body piercing? Is it difficult to see eye-to-eye on this subject, or are you just not sure what the real risks of body piercing are? Sometimes it's hard to separate the facts from the myths surrounding body modification. When that happens, it can make it even harder for parents and teenagers to come to an agreement on whether a body piercing is an acceptable form of self-expression.

First, you should understand that the risks of body piercing are very real. There are genuine problems that can and do arise, and these shouldn't be ignored. On the other hand, by taking certain precautions and taking proper care of your piercings, you can minimize your chance of having a problem and greatly increase the chances that you will be one of the millions of people who will end up with a healthy, normal piercing.

Infection. Without proper care, infection can lead to scarring and even blood poisoning. Infections of piercings are unattractive and can be very dangerous. Allergic Reaction. Some people are sensitive to certain metals and only discover this when they are pierced and have a severe reaction to the jewelry. The rash, swelling, and difficulty breathing can lead to shock and hospitalization. Nerve Damage. If a piercing isn't placed carefully, it can be pushed through a nerve, severing it and making the surrounding area permanently deadened to any feeling. Excessive Bleeding. This is just what it sounds like. If you get pierced and happen to hit a large blood vessel, you could have difficulty stopping the bleeding and may end up in the emergency room getting it cauterized. Not pretty. Risk of Cross-Contamination. You may become cross-contaminated by Hepatitis, the HIV virus, or another blood-borne pathogen is you are pierced by improperly sterilized needles. Keloids. These are toughened knots of scar tissue that look like cysts at the base of a piercing that sometimes form for no reason at the site of a piercing. Can't donate blood. Is it important for you to be a blood donor? Is there someone in your family who is ill and may need blood donations in the near future? Don't get pierced. You cannot donate blood for one year after getting pierced -- no exceptions. Dental Risks. There are several problems that can arise from oral piercings, including chipped teeth, worn tooth enamel, damage to the gums and jaw line from wear, and even aspiration (inhaling) of a loose piece of jewelry into the lungs. Infection and swelling of the tongue is also a possibility, and is very unpleasant.

Are there other body piercing risks?

It depends on what you consider a risk. There are certainly things you should consider that you could call potential drawbacks to getting pierced. Among these are:

Pain. How much of a weenie are you? If you can't tolerate pain, you may be risking suffering more than you like for your vanity. Some piercings hardly hurt at all, others can be pretty rough for a few weeks. Cost. Do you have the money to pay not only for the piercing and jewelry, but for the aftercare products, such as Provon® or Satin® and H2Ocean®? Commitment. You are putting yourself at risk if you can't clean your piercing every day, twice a day. Period. End of discussion. And you have to do your sea salt soaks or H2Ocean® treatments without fail. Judgment of Others. Let's get real. You may not want to hear this one, but face it; others may judge you based on your piercings, so really think this one through. Will it bother you if others stare as though they are afraid of you? Do you want to have to explain yourself or remove your piercing for job interviews? Will you feel badly if your piercing upsets your grandparents or family friends?

Okay, we've looked at the risks of body piercing, and you (or your teenager) are still certain that a piercing is a "must have." How do you prevent all of those scary possibilities we mentioned in our list of health risks? By doing your homework! A good piercing with a low risk of infection or other complications is the result of choosing a good, professional piercer and having the piercing done in the proper environment.

What should you look for in a piercing parlor that will reduce the risks of body piercing?

First impressions count! When you walk in the door, scan the waiting area. Is it clean, neat and professional looking? If the front of the shop isn't clean, it's a sure thing that they can't keep the back area clean. If you first impression makes you wary, turn around and walk out the door.

Credentials

Check to make sure they are licensed by the local board of health to operate as a piercing studio, and make sure their license hasn't expired. Also look for membership in a recognized group such as the Association of Professional Piercers (APP), which sets high standards for membership and requires extensive training. An APP certification will indicate that the piercers have taken classes and been through a rigorous apprenticeship program.

Helpful, Knowledgeable Staff

Ask questions, and lots of them. If the employees don't know the answers and are more like sales clerks pushing jewelry than anything, you should be wary. They may have a high turn-over of staff for some reason; this is also a red flag. If, however, they can answer your piercing questions and give you good, clear advice, then they have been well-trained by someone with experience.

The one exception may be if the studio is very large and they have a few sales people who only work the front counters. If this is the case and you begin asking questions, they should answer honestly that they are salespeople, and be willing to refer you to a piercer or apprentice who can discuss your concerns with you. There should always be a piercer on location at the studio or parlor when it is open -- always.

Printed information

Ask to see the aftercare information they provide to individuals getting pierced. If you hear, "Oh, your piercer will explain all that to you," insist on seeing the printed version before getting pierced. If they don't have printed, step-by-step instructions, walk away. It is too easy to forget what you need to do, forget the name of the product you should be using, etc. if you don't have printed instructions. If they aren't willing to spend the money to print the instructions for their clients, who knows where else they might be cutting corners!

Read through the aftercare instructions and see if they are current with the prevailing standards. A good way to evaluate this is by checking them against what you see on sites such as BME, Tribalectic and APP. If the piercing literature still recommends using alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, for instance, to clean your piercing, then the studio is not keeping up with the current research in body piercing care and may cause you unnecessary suffering and longer healing times.

The rules are there for a reason

If you're a teenager and they don't ask for I.D. or tell you to come back with a parent or guardian, do not thank your lucky stars. Leave! The law says your parent has to be present, and any studio that bends or breaks the rules on one issue will do the same on others.

In other words, if they are willing to "ignore" one rule to grab your money, they will ignore others to turn a higher profit. They may decide that the expense of an autoclave is unnecessary, or that reusing piercing needles is a great way to save some money. You are a minor and have little or no protection without your parents present, and they know this -- that's why they do it -- to take advantage of you, pure and simple. If you are going to get pierced, make sure you take a parent or guardian with you for your own safety. If they've been cool enough to get this far with you, they'll survive going to a piercing parlor, trust me.

The rest of the place

We've made it past the waiting room and decided that the piercing parlor seems okay so far; they have current credentials and health certificates, their aftercare instructions look good, and they had Dad sign a consent form. Are we ready to go? Not yet. You still need to check a few more things. Don't be afraid to interrogate them about the piercing room and the sterilization process itself. These are two of the most important things to consider.

Ask these questions before ever getting pierced:

Do you sterilize your tools in an autoclave? May I see your most recent spore test results? If they don't do spore testing at least once a month, don't get pierced there. Spore testing is the only way to know if an autoclave is effectively sterilizing the equipment, and autoclave sterilization is the only method approved by the Association of Professional Piercers. How long have you been piercing, and how did you learn? Body piercing is complex, and any piercer who is a professional will gladly explain where he learned and from whom. It takes quite a while to learn what types of jewelry and needles are best for each piercing and to learn how to place the piercings optimally. If a piercer seems defensive or less than forthcoming, be hesitant to let him touch you with a needle. May I see the room where you'll be doing the piercing, and can I watch you set up? Check out the area where the piercings are done. Do they wipe down the area before and after every piercing? Do they maintain a clean, dust free environment at all times? When setting up, make sure that the sterilized instruments are put on a tray and not touched except with washed, gloved hands. Make sure the piercer uses gloves for the entire piercing and changes them frequently. What type of piercing needles do you use? There is only one correct answer: Single-use, pre-sterilized, disposable needles. These should not be opened except in your presence at the time of the piercing. If they use a piercing gun for any piercing, leave immediately. No body piercing should ever be done with a piercing gun, which causes bruising, trauma and excessive tearing and bleeding.

"I've chosen the parlor and piercer and I got a really cool body piercing. Now what?"

AFTERCARE!!! There is nothing as crucial to addressing the risks of body piercing as properly following the guidelines for piercing aftercare. Since you've chosen a reliable, professional piercer, you will have a set of aftercare instructions that will tell you what to do to properly care for your piercings.

Do not skip a day because you are too tired, too busy, or because you "forget." Aftercare is literally preventative care -- you are taking care of your piercing in order to prevent an infection and to enable the wound to heal properly. While following your aftercare instructions, watch for signs of trouble so that you can address them early on before they turn into real problems.

Signs of a potential problem that you should bring to the attention of your parents (if you are a minor) or your piercer are:

Discharge that is green or yellow from the piercing Splitting, oozing or cracking and bleeding of a piercing more than a week old Swelling and redness after the first few days Pain and redness or red streaks radiating out from the piercing Migration (movement of the piercing) up through the layers of skin Difficulty breathing and swelling of the tongue within hours of a piercing, especially an oral piercing A rash or hives soon after a piercing A lump or bump forming at the base of the piercing

In some cases, you will need to see a doctor; in others your piercer will be able to advise you on the proper steps to alleviate the situation. The important thing is to catch any small problems before they turn into big ones. If you follow your aftercare instructions and monitor your piercing carefully, you can minimize the risks of body piercing so that you can enjoy your new body piercing completely!

Here are a few ideas to help you find the fun in any job:

Play music. Turn on your CD player, MP3 player or even the radio. Music has the ability to draw our minds away from the more disheartening aspects of any job. Make your work a competition. If you are working with someone else, make it a race to see who can get it done soonest. Or who can complete the most of each task. Just dive in. Most of our feelings of dread disappear once we become immersed in a project. Whatever it was that made us put it off or want to avoid it, just goes away once we get started. Ask yourself, "What can I find to enjoy about this?" Few jobs are totally devoid of any feelings of satisfaction that comes from just doing it. Psychologically, we need work in order to be happy. Work itself is often its own reward. Make an effort to find what gives you satisfaction in the job at hand. Keep score. If your job is to make cold calls all day, keep records of how many calls you make. Break down how many you make before noon, how many you make each hour and how many you make for the entire day. Then on subsequent days, see if you can beat your previous day's numbers. This builds a challenge into the job instead of it being one huge objective. Can you make your job a team effort? Involve a friend or work side by side with someone whose company you enjoy. Companionship can make most experiences more enjoyable. Take breaks. Don't let fatigue rob you of any joy that comes from doing good, honest work. Stop occasionally and stretch or walk around. Come back to the job when you feel refreshed. Break the job down into more manageable tasks. Big jobs tend to overwhelm us and demoralize our will. By making a big job several smaller jobs, you can enjoy that feeling of satisfaction sooner and more often as you cross each small job off your list. Do quality work. Sloppy, get it done work feeds no one's ego. There are tremendous psychological rewards that come when we know we just produced good work. This sounds silly, but I have gone back into a clean garage, after spending my entire Saturday morning straightening it out, just to look at and appreciate my own workmanship. Change the setting. Can you take the job outside? If you have a back deck on your house, take some jobs outside and enjoy a beautiful day while you work. Do you remember those beautiful Spring days when a teacher might have occasionally taken the entire class outside to teach outdoors? Try to do that with your own work.

Work is what you make it. Few jobs are as boring or agonizing as we sometimes make them. If you can turn work into fun, how much more enjoyable would your entire life be?

Cyber Bullying can be accomplished in many different forms using modern technology. Although it is usually performed over the internet it can also use cell phones as a vehicle.

Internet harassment is one of the major risks to our children online. The results can be fatal with suicides resulting from the abuse occurring daily.

Let's go over some of the types of Cyber Bullying and some examples of Cyber Bullying your child might experience.

* Cyber Stalking - The transmission of messages to intimidate and or threaten the victim resulting in a child to have concerns about their personal safety and well being.

* Degradation - This would be the use of rumors and unfounded gossip in an attempt to break up the friendships the victim might have with others or to damage the kid's reputation.

* Harassment - This is the constant and unrelenting sending of offensive, insulting, rude and harassing messages over the internet or cell phone to the Cyber Bullying Victim.

* Impersonation - The taking on of a false identity pretending to be the victim and send or posts material to damage the child's reputation or get them into trouble.

* Flaming - This a very aggressive and abrasive form of intimidation used by the aggressor using vulgar and angry language with the intent to start fights with the teenager or preteen.

* Text Messaging - This is where they enlists friends to help send thousands of messages to the victim's cell phone running up their phone bill and getting them into trouble with parents.

* Password Theft - Gaining access to the child's passwords used on the internet and uses it to log into the sites the child has and locks them out, also allowing other to hack the account.

* Web Sites - The creation of web sites and/or pages filled with images, rumors, statements, and/or defamatory remarks to further humiliate and cause emotional distress for the victim.

* Images or Photos - The posting of photos or images that are found that might be embarrassing in nature or the creation or altering of images to depict the boy or girl and cause humiliation.

* PC Attack - Our children are very skilled in computer technology. Many can and have used to Cyber Bully another the sending of viruses, a Trojan and/or spyware to infect the boy's or girl's computer.

* Proxy Attack - It is not unusual for them to enlist their friends to assist them in the dirty work and to "join in on the fun" to further the humiliation and emotional damage caused the victim.

The types of Cyber Bullying listed above are a serious threat to your son or daughter. It is shown in surveys that one out of every three children are victims of this form on internet danger.

Our kids are reluctant to tell us when this occurs.

Bullying of your children by their peers has occurred for hundreds of years in the schoolyards and playgrounds they frequent. With the growing popularity of the internet this has now escalated to proportions that many do not realize.

Cyber-Bullying has gained some exposure with some high profile cases going to court. The dangers of this new form of bullying are very real leading to many cases of Cyber-Bullying suicides. You can read stories all over the internet about bullycide victims.

In a recent study of school age children it was found that an alarming 33% of our children have been subjected to Cyber-Bullying. Of those who have experienced this abuse 41% never confided with anyone off of the internet about the events that occurred. Parents were never told of the abuse that was being targeted towards their child.

The cyber bully may verbally abuse your child on the internet in chat rooms, with the use of instant messengers, or through the use of email. They are relentless and will put constant pressure on your child hoping to break them down. This can cause extreme depression, the loss of self esteem and cause emotional scars that the victim will carry with him for a very long time.

The cyber bully may create a false identity to pretend he is your child on the internet and say or do things to embarrass your child or to ruin his reputation with his peers.

Some cyber bullies even go to the extent of publishing embarrassing photographs of your child. Some of these are real pictures your kid never imagined would be made public. Some are created with graphic programs like Photoshop to create false graphics depicting your child in some very awkward situations.

The bully we grew up with is nothing compared to the cyber bully. I read on one internet site earlier today the accounts of 14 children who were documented cases of bullycide victims. There are thousands of cases of Cyber-Bullying suicides that go unreported or that are not identified.

So what can we do as parents to help prevent our child from becoming a victim of this form of abuse?

Obviously if our child opens up to us and tells us of the Cyber-Bullying he is receiving on the internet we can try to intervene and put a stop to it. We can contact the parents of the cyber bully if their identity is known. We can contact the internet service provider of the mechanism being used to transfer this abuse.
We can also contact law enforcement officials to gain assistance.

If you child has been subjected to this type of abuse please do not underestimate the damages that might have been done to your child. He may need professional counseling to make sure he or she is not showing any signs of depression or lack of self esteem.

Unfortunately, as studies have shown, many of our children for one reason or another will never share with us what is going on. In these cases we need to be more proactive to make sure nothing is happening that needs our attention. We certainly do not want to risk our kid's name being added to the ever growing list of Cyber-Bullying suicides.

DPF, What and Where Is It? How Does it Work? Should I Buy a DPF Delete Kit?

This is a question we get a million times a day. Since 2007 all Dodge Cummins 6.7, Ford Powerstroke 6.4, and Chevy Duramax 6.6 trucks come from the factory equipped with a particulate filter to meet tougher emissions standards. A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a device that traps the soot and unburnt fuel from diesel combustion. You may have noticed if you have one the 07+ diesel pickups that it never puts out any black smoke at all. The DPF will capture 90% or better of all harmful diesel emissions. Once the DPF has become "full" of soot, it will need to have a regeneration cycle in order to burn all the soot out. You may have noticed a light on your dash from time to time that alerts you that the DPF is in "regen" or "cleaning filter."

Basically what is happening during this process is that the engine's computer has decided from the information that it receives from the sensors installed in the exhaust that the DPF has filled up past it's acceptable limit. The computer then opens the EGR (exhaust recirulation valve) introducing hot exhaust into the intake to help get get exhaust gas temps higher and also injects a small shot of fuel into the cylinders when the exhaust valves are open. The raised exhaust temps and the small amount of fuel then burn out the particulate (soot) that the DPF has collected since it's last regen. Once the computer gets readings from the sensors in the exhaust that the filter is flowing an acceptable limit again, it ends the regen cycle. The frequency of this cleaning cycle is different from vehicle to vehicle depending on use, mileage, and engine condition.

1. The lines on the side of the exhaust are fuel lines that dump fuel directly into the filter and the other connections are glow or spark plugs that ignite the fuel to clean the filter.

Not at all. As I stated above, the fuel needed for cleaning the dpf is entered into the engine cylinders by route of the regular fuel injectors during the exhaust stroke of the engine. A small shot of fuel is pushed out with the rest of the exhaust gas. The metal lines everyone sees on the side of the DPF filter are for a pressure sensor that is usually attached to the side of the transmission or frame. They have the long metal tubes on them to get the temperature of the exhaust they are measuring down before it reaches the sensor. Again, I don't care what the tech at the dealership says about those lines, if he says they are fuel lines (which I hear all the time), he is an idiot and you should remove your truck from there as quickly as possible. The other wires you see going to the exhaust before and after the DPF filter are not spark or glow plugs. They are thermocouples that measure exhaust temperature. The computer uses exhaust temperature and pressure before, at, and after the dpf to measure how plugged the dpf is and when it's time to perform a regen.

2. I can just remove the DPF filter and put a piece of pipe in there.

Sorry, no. If you remove the DPF filter and make no adjustments to the engine's computer, it will enter either a limp mode or a constant state of regen. Simply put, all the sensors and the dpf have to be in perfect working order when running the stock vehicle's programming or else your truck will go haywire and you will not be able to drive it.

Common problems with the DPF system:

1. Poor Fuel economy - This is the number one complaint we get from customers who have trucks equipped with a DPF. Most customers who traded in their pre-07 diesel pickups have been completely unhappy with the lack of fuel mileage that used to enjoy. The average fuel economy we hear people report on the DPF equipped trucks is usually 12-14 mpg. Many of these folks traded in trucks that did 18-22 mpg and are completely disgusted.

2. Excessive regens - Many of our customers who use their trucks for work complain about very frequent regens that kill their fuel mileage and performance. Many customers who work outdoors in the winter were used to leaving their old diesels run all day while they were on the job site. The DPF equipped trucks don't handle this very well. The cooler idling temperature of the exhaust gas will soot up the DPF on an accelerated rate. It is not uncommon for these customers to be on their second or third filter change because the truck went into constant limp mode. The usually dealership response is: "You can't let these new trucks idle." Which goes over pretty well with guys who are stuck at a job site five miles back in the woods all day and the temperature never gets above ten degrees.

3. High replacement cost - If any of you have had to pay for a DPF replacement out of warranty, you probably had a heart attack when you got the bill. A replacement DPF (which isn't available aftermarket yet) runs roughly 00-00 for the just the filter alone. And hears the scary part. DPF life is estimated between 120,000 and 150,000 miles. If you plan on keeping your new diesel pickup for a few hundred thousand miles better start a DPF fund.

4. Restricts performance modifications - With the new diesel pickups, the potential for horsepower improvements is tremendous. We have taken all three brands of pickups to close to or over 500 rear wheel horsepower and 1000 ft/lbs of torque with just intake, exhaust, and programming modifications. Never has so much performance been so easy and affordable while still maintaining street manners. The only problem is anything past a small tow type tune will aggravate the particulate filter. Turning up the engine will produce more soot which will plug the dpf sooner causing more regens. Many customers who run a 100 horsepower program report very poor fuel mileage and constant regens.

What can be done to extend DPF life and limit regens?:

Since we are not allowed by law to remove the DPF system, we are stuck with it if you want to comply with Federal emissions and keep your truck legal. Here are a few tips to help mileage and DPF life:

1. Use the right fuel - It is absolutely crucial and necessary to use ultra low sulphur fuel in any vehicle equipped with a particulate filter. High amounts of sulfur in the fuel will plug the DPF immediately. We get lots of questions from farmers about the red fuel. As far as we know you can't buy high sulfur fuel commercially anymore. We have a refinery roughly ten minutes from the shop that refines diesel. Both fuels are exactly the same, their is just red dye added to the offroad fuel. It won't hurt anything to run the low sulphur red fuel. The other question we get asked is about additives. Our advice is to only run products that were made for diesel fuel. Power Service, K100, Standyne, and Flash Lube for example are brands that we see no problems running. DO NOT add any sort of homemade fixes. Adding a quart of saw oil, atf, or anything else probably isn't a good idea. It will burn dirty and may clog the dpf.

2. Use the proper engine oil - Make sure you are using an engine oil that is rated properly for your truck. Some engine oil gets burnt up in combustion no matter what. If you are running oil that is not formulated for a DPF equipped vehicle, it will soot up the filter sooner.

3. Keep idling to a minimum - Simply put, idling contributes to dpf problems. Period. Keeping the rpm's elevated during will help. Keeping idling to a minimum is best for these trucks.

4. Run it hard once in a while - Don't be afraid once in a while when going up a hill to matt the throttle for a few seconds. Running the truck hard and getting things nice and warm will help clear out soot deposits.

I want to remove the DPF. What can I do and what will be the benefits?

First thing, it is absolutely against the law to remove or disable any emissions device for any vehicle that is going to be operated on the public highways. If you decide you want to remove emissions equipment for any reason, it is solely up to you and your mechanic to decide what is safe and legal for your application. I do not condone nor advise removing the dpf or any other emissions device. All the examples I speak about below were tested off-road and the mileage tests were performed on our Superflow chassis dyno that simulate the load the truck has alone and when towing.

We have done some testing on all three brands of trucks to see what results could be achieved by removing the dpf filter system. There are many products available for off-road and competition use that will disable the dpf system. You have to run some sort of aftermarket device to disable the system or there will be problems when you remove the DPF. There are several options that will allow the removal of the DPF without any horsepower increase and also several options that will add up to 250 horsepower along with removing the DPF.

Here are the test trucks we have done controlled tests on our chassis dyno with:

Truck #1: 2007.5 Ford F-350 6.4 Powerstroke
Mods: S&B Cold Air Intake, Edge Race Evolution, DPF Delete pipe (rest factory exhaust)
Stock RWHP: 285
After Mods RWHP: 471
Average Mileage stock: 11.8 mpg
Average Mileage mods: 17.4 mpg

Notes: Very basic delete package. Overall mileage jumped 5.6 mpg on simulated highway driving. Horsepower levels range from 40HP increase to 185 hp increase on the EDGE Race Evolution. Stock air box would pull filter restriction gauge with clean factory filter on even lower levels. Air box upgrade a must for this package.

Truck #2: 2008 Dodge 3500 6.7 Cummins
Mods: Full 4" DPF and Cat delete exhaust, Flo-Pro DPF electronics package
Stock RWHP: 294
Mod RWHP: 311
Average Mileage Stock: 12.1 mpg
Average Mileage Mods: 18.9 mpg

Notes: We were really impressed with this package. The Flo-Pro electronics only disable the DPF system and add absolutely no horsepower. The free flowing exhaust showed some horsepower gains. Mileage test was simulated highway driving with a truck weight of 8700lbs. Great mileage gain of 6.8 over stock. Inexpensive delete package for off-road work trucks.

Truck #3: 2008 F-550 6.4 Powerstroke

Notes: This is a package that we put together to simulate the gains possible on one of the hard working trucks that tows alot. The horsepower increase was dramatic, but the mileage gains were tremendous. We simulated a truck weight of 11,500 lbs for the highway tests and a trailer weight of 12,000 lbs for the tow test. The highway mileage tests of the mods showed a 8.1 mpg gain while the towing test also showed an amazing 8 mpg gain.

Truck #4: 2009 Dodge 2500 Cummins 6.7
Mods: 5" straight DPF/Cat delete exhaust, S&B Cold Air Intake, H&S XRT programmer

Notes: We only did simulated hwy mileage tests on this truck. We just used the XRT programmer to remove the DPF functions from the computer and left the horsepower stock. The XRT has horsepower increase levels of 60, 120, 175 horsepower. It will also shut the egr system off as well.

Notes: This truck was an animal! The custom tunes were some of the smoothest shifting of any of the options we have tried and the power was crazy. There was a 247 rear wheel horsepower increase over stock on the highest level and the rear wheel torque was over 1000 ft/lbs! You would think there would be a serious drop in the mileage department, but we were surprised to see the truck gain nearly 6 mpg at even this horsepower level.

In conclusion, if you are looking for some serious horsepower for the drag strip or the pulling track, these new common rail diesels make serious horsepower with very little modification once the dpf is out of the way. Also, if you only operated your truck off-road there are some extremely impressive fuel economy gains to be had by removing the dpf filter. It is really too bad that we couldn't run the trucks on public roads with the dpf removed. We truly would have incredibly powerful trucks that get great mileage and have wonderful street manners.
